Why Do We Watch Movie Credits?

How to CONSISTENTLY Turn a Boring Video into a Compelling Storyline and Convince Anyone to Watch Till the End

How to CONSISTENTLY Turn a Boring Video into a Compelling Storyline and Convince Anyone to Watch Till the End

So most likely you have read the last 6 of my emails and we’re at the last step in the process: How to get people to watch till the end.

Well I have some good news: It’s simpler than you think.

Here’s the bad news: It’s more difficult than you think.

Getting people to watch till the end is entirely focused on one thing.

Tension

Watch any of your past videos (that don’t have views) and I’m pretty sure it goes a bit like this: you might focus a ton on the hook to get someone to watch, but then the rest of your video is blander than boiled chicken.

This ain’t no movie theatre, this the internet, man! Now that you have someone “hooked,” you have to give them a reason to not click on the 5 bajillion other videos that are available to them.

So, here’s the best way to keep people engaged.

Create an Open Loop

People pay attention when there is a question asked and it is interesting enough for them to want the answer.

That means it needs to be juicy.

  1. Ask a question
    • Example: How long does a lighter last? You want to see to the end because you want to see the answer… pretty simple.
  2. Create a challenge
    • Example: Finding People’s Emails. This is Mr. Beast’s weapon of choice, but it can work for you too. State you will do something, then wait till the very end to provide results.

The best videos combine both a question and a challenge.

A good video should have rising and falling moments of tension to help keep the viewer’s monkey brain engaged, but also give them little moments to breathe and relax throughout the video.

Like any good movie, DJ, or wave pool, you need your ups and your downs.

You want to provide tension and put them on the edge of their seat and then give a few seconds to breathe and get ready for the next batch of tension.

Here’s how you can provide tension:

  1. Reveal something new
  2. Confess a problem
  3. Accuse someone/something

These are EASY hacks to make someone stay. Next time I’ll show you how I learned the art of excitement through an improv class… and how you can use this trick to make banger videos that people forget to swipe away from.
